Click here to review the Draft Basset Creek Valley Redevelopment Plan.The Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan 2006 is now available for review. It represents a modification to the Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan that was approved by the Minneapolis City Council in 2000. The City encourages any interested stakeholders to read the plan document and send comments to Tom Leighton, Principal City Planner, prior to its review by the City Planning Commission. The 45-day Public Comment Period will begin on September 1 and will end on October 15, 2006. All comments will be made available to the City Planning Commission as part of the staff report to the Commission. A public hearing on the draft plan is tentatively scheduled for the City Planning Commission meeting at 4:30 PM on Monday, October 30, 2006 in City Hall, Room 317.
The draft plan documents at this website are in pdf format and are quite large. Therefore viewing or downloading the files may take some time. To make the files less cumbersome they are broken up into plan sections. The documents include a cover letter from the Bassett Creek Valley Redevelopment Oversight Committee requesting approval of the plan, an executive summary of the plan, the plan itself, and appendices to the plan.
Hard copies of this material are available for review at the Harrison Neighborhood Association, the downtown and the Sumner Libraries, and the Planning Department offices at Room 210, City Hall, 350 South Fifth Street.
Comments and concerns about the plan may be submitted on this website, or directed in writing to:

What's the Buzz?
The Redevelopment Master Plan study is a project that was initiated by community members in the Bryn Mawr and Harrison neighborhoods and Ryan Companies US, Inc. The project is supported by staff from Minneapolis Department of Community Planning and Economic Development.
The project web site will be updated throughout the duration of the Master Plan study, which will end in October/November 2005, when a draft redevelopment plan will be presented to the Planning Commission and City Council.
A master plan that was prepared for Bassett Creek Valley was adopted by Council in 2000. The Redevelopment Master Plan will examine in greater detail options for redeveloping Bassett Creek Valley and identify market- and community-supported land uses, land use densities, and urban design and appearance. The Redevelopment Master Plan study will include the following elements, to mention a few:
- Public involvement and community participation;
- Analysis of Bassett Creek Valley's built and natural environments and impacts resulting from previous and current use as an industrial site;
- Land use and urban design analyses;
- Market research and financial feasibility analysis; and
- Coordination with related projects such as preliminary engineering studies for the Van White Memorial Boulevard project.
